Romeo and Juliet
From the play by William Shakespeare. Author(s):
Ruth Perry
Yes, the girl on the balcony is Juliet and the young man she just met at the dance, and promptly fell in love with, is Romeo. And of course, the other well-loved characters are also here: the haughty Montagues and Capulets with their long history of violence and counter violence, the stalwart friends, the friar and the ribald nurse. In this adaptation the tragedy is only slightly muted by the re-emphasis of Shakespeare's point that the antidote to the poison of enmity is not a violent victory but the understanding that comes through shared sorrow. Unit set.
